Explorer Camp – Sanbona
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve lies a 3 h scenic drive away from Cape Town in the heart of the Little Karoo.
It is characterized by stillness, an air of isolation and boundless plains.
Explore the harsh landscape of raw and rare beauty, containing free roaming “big 5”, over 200 bird species, approximately 650 plant species and rock art sites dating back to 1500 years.
With the absence of artificial light, stargazing is phenomenal and rated amongst the best in Southern Africa!
Sanbona, often referred to as the ‘Arizona of Southern Africa’ and the spirit of the San people, invites you to explore a special wilderness sanctuary, offering five star accommodation at three luxurious lodges and a back to nature Explorer Camp adventure, surrounded by ancient volcanic mountains and endless vistas.
The Explorer Camp is a guided walking experience exploring the bush.
Guests will enjoy walks through the magnificent Wildlife Reserve and sleep around the fire at night within the comfort of a mobile tent.
The Camp operates during the summer months (October to April) and each trail is 2 nights with a set departure each Friday.
The walking trails are hosted and guided by an armed qualified walking guide.
Distances walked vary each day, but can last up to 4 hours.
All meals are prepared under the vast skies. Each tent has a bio box toilet with canvas for privacy and all guests share two outside showers.
Participants older than 60 years will be required to provide a medical clearance certificate in order to participate.
No persons younger than 16 years will be able to participate.
A minimum stay of two nights (Friday and Saturday) must be booked per reservation.
